Kate Rockwell Rejoins ‘Heathers’ Off-Broadway as New Cast Members Arrive

Kate Rockwell is set to return to the Off-Broadway revival of “Heathers,” joining a slate of casting changes that will take effect later this month at New World Stages.

The Kevin Murphy–Laurence O’Keefe musical, which opened its current New York engagement on July 10, will welcome new performers beginning January 26 as the production continues its run.

Rockwell will reprise the roles of Ms. Fleming and Veronica’s Mom, parts she previously played during a limited engagement last year while Kerry Butler was appearing in “Bat Boy” at New York City Center.

Additional cast members joining the company on January 26 include Adam Bashian. Bashian will take on the track of Ram’s Dad, Big Bud Dean, and Coach Ripper. Jimmy Ray Bennett will assume multiple roles, portraying Kurt’s Dad, Veronica’s Dad, and Principal Gowan. Thalia Atallah is also set to join the ensemble as the Drama Club Drama Queen. As previously announced, Peyton List will begin performances as Heather Chandler on the same date.

These arrivals coincide with several departures from the current cast. Kerry Butler, who has been appearing as Ms. Fleming and Veronica’s Mom, will play her final performance January 25. She will be joined in taking final bows by Jodie Steele, Ben Davis, Cameron Loyal, and Lav Raman, who have been featured in key supporting roles during the revival’s opening months.

Based on the 1988 film, “Heathers” centers on high school student Veronica Sawyer, whose climb up the social ladder through her association with the ruthless Heathers is disrupted by the arrival of the enigmatic J.D. The revival is directed by Andy Fickman, who also helmed the show’s original stagings.

The current cast is led by Kuhoo Verma as Veronica Sawyer and Casey Likes as J.D., alongside Jackera Davis as Heather Duke and Elizabeth Teeter as Heather McNamara. The creative team reunites several collaborators from the London production, including choreographer Gary Lloyd, designer David Shields, lighting designer Ben Cracknell, and sound designer Dan Samson, with additional choreography by Stephanie Klemons.
