Broadway’s ‘Hamilton’ to Welcome Back Christopher Jackson

Christopher Jackson is heading back to Broadway, with the original “Hamilton” star set to reprise his acclaimed portrayal of George Washington in the musical later this year.

The Grammy and Emmy-winning performer will return to the Richard Rodgers Theatre beginning September 8, 2026, and remain with the production through January 3, 2027. His engagement comes after the musical recently marked its tenth anniversary on Broadway and follows the return of fellow original cast member Leslie Odom, Jr., who rejoined the company last fall.

Jackson first brought the nation’s first president to life during the show’s Off-Broadway debut and remained with the production when it transferred to Broadway. His performance earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Musical, and he later received a Grammy Award as one of the principal soloists on the cast recording.

“Returning to Hamilton as George Washington is a deeply meaningful homecoming,” Jackson said in a statement. “This show changed my life, and it remains one of the great honors of my career to be part of telling this story. To step back into this room, with this company and this audience, is something I will never take for granted.”

Producer Jeffrey Seller reflected on the origins of the role and Jackson’s contribution to the musical’s success.

“Lin-Manuel wrote George Washington with Chris’ gorgeous voice and musicality in his head,” Seller said. “How lucky are we that we get to experience his George Washington one last time?”

Featuring a book and score by Lin-Manuel Miranda and inspired by Ron Chernow’s biography “Alexander Hamilton,” the musical chronicles the life of the American statesman while incorporating historical figures including George Washington, Aaron Burr, James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson.

Directed by Thomas Kail with choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision by Alex Lacamoire, “Hamilton” officially opened on Broadway on August 6, 2015, after beginning previews on July 13. 

Produced by Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs, Jill Furman, and The Public Theater, the production went on to capture 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and later received a Grammy Award, an Olivier Award, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and a special citation from the Kennedy Center Honors.
