As AI-generated music continues to flood streaming platforms, Vocana is planting a flag for the humans.
The streaming music service announced that, beginning in April, it will introduce a Verified Human Artist badge designed to highlight independent artists who are actively playing live shows. Vocana says it is the first streaming music service to use a badge of this kind, aimed at helping fans identify artists making music beyond the algorithm — and performing it in real life.
To power the initiative, Vocana is teaming with JamBase, the long-running live music discovery platform known for its extensive concert and festival database. Through the partnership, JamBase will help identify artists with verified live performance activity, allowing Vocana to surface musicians who are not only releasing tracks, but also showing up on stages.
The move arrives at a moment when the music industry is grappling with a surge of AI-generated content, raising questions about visibility, authenticity and how independent artists can cut through increasingly crowded digital platforms. Vocana’s answer is simple: spotlight the people who are actually out there gigging.
“We’re here to build community, first and foremost. The Verified Human Artist badge is about bringing music back to something tangible that we can share, something deeply human and authentic,” said Neil Sheehan, President of Vocana. “When fans get to see artists play live, there’s a deep connection that can form, a different kind of support that really matters to everyone in independent music.”
For JamBase, the collaboration extends a mission nearly three decades in the making.
“JamBase has devoted the last 28 years to gathering everything fans want to know about live music,” said Ted Kartzman, co-founder of JamBase and long-time advocate of independent artists. “We’re all about authenticity and the magic of live shows and festivals. We’re thrilled to work with Vocana to foster real relationships between musicians playing live and the fans who want to hear and connect with them.”
Vocana and JamBase will mark the launch with a Music Biz 2026 event, For the Love of Live, an outdoor gathering built around independent artists and in-person connection. The event will take place May 11 from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at Georgia Power Pavilion at The Battery Atlanta, less than a mile from the Music Biz conference hotel and following the LyricFind party.
The lineup includes Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics featuring Amanda Joy at 8:15 p.m., followed by Turquoise Music at 9:30 p.m., and another set from Ruby Velle & The Soulphonics featuring Eddie Roberts at 9:45 p.m.
In a streaming landscape increasingly shaped by automation, Vocana is betting that fans still want something unmistakably human: a real artist, a real stage and a reason to show up.
