Mystic Lake Amphitheater is kicking things off with a hometown party.
The new 19,000-capacity outdoor venue in Shakopee will officially debut Saturday, June 20, with a $20 opening night celebration spotlighting Minnesota music, comedy and community. The event will run from 6 to 11 p.m. and feature an all-Minnesota lineup led by Motion City Soundtrack, Ber and Rocket Club, with a headliner still to be announced.
The first act ever to hit the Mystic Lake Amphitheater stage will be School of Rock, giving the venue’s inaugural spotlight to the next generation of local musicians. St. Paul native and “Saturday Night Live” cast member Tommy Brennan will host the celebration.
Tickets are available for pre-sale starting Thursday, May 7, at 10 a.m., followed by the general on-sale Friday, May 8, at 10 a.m. here. A portion of proceeds will benefit The Salt Cure Restaurant Recovery Fund, which supports Minnesota restaurant workers and businesses.
“Our fans in Minnesota will soon have a world-class outdoor amphitheater they can call their own, with a lineup spanning every genre,” Josh Lacey, Minnesota Market President for Live Nation, said in a press release. “What better way to celebrate the opening of this new home for summer concert memories than with an evening of Minnesota music, comedy and community?”
The opening night event sets the tone for a packed first season at Mystic Lake Amphitheater, which is scheduled to host more than 35 concerts across rock, country, hip-hop, pop and more. The venue’s first official concert follows just two days later, with mgk headlining June 22.
The debut season already includes major names such as Dave Matthews Band, Bob Dylan, Lil Wayne with 2 Chainz, Hilary Duff, Chris Stapleton, Kesha, Guns N’ Roses, Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Festival, Mötley Crüe, Wu-Tang Clan, Iron Maiden and Pitbull with Lil Jon.
Built specifically for live music, Mystic Lake Amphitheater will feature unobstructed sightlines, upgraded production, an outdoor plaza overlooking the Minnesota River Valley and a broad concessions program highlighting local partners. Fans can also expect value-focused options including $2 hot dogs, $5 beer and $3 snacks.
The venue will also offer premium boxes, suites, VIP club access and a pre-show social area called The Backyard, featuring food, drinks, lawn games and live music.
Mystic Lake Amphitheater is expected to create more than 800 local jobs and generate an estimated $138 million in annual regional economic impact.
