Bruce Springsteen Officially Announces Broadway Residency

For fans of Bruce Springsteen, August 30, 2017 may be a make-or-break day.

That’s when tickets will be available -via Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program – for The Boss’s upcoming residency at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway. The legendary performer’s website and Facebook page made the official announcement on Wednesday, confirming what had been rumored for some time.

Comparative to the arenas and stadiums that Springsteen has been filling for a generation, the Walter Kerr Theatre is a shoebox, with a capacity just under 1,000. For those looking for a comparison point, it’s a little smaller than the Stone Pony, one of the clubs of North New Jersey where The Boss made a name for himself in the early 1970s before exploding with records like “Born to Run” and beyond.

His intimate run at the theatre is expected to combine musical performance (naturally), audience interaction, and readings from his recently-released autobiography. Tickets will go on sale at 10AM ET on Wednesday, August 30. The run will take place during the fall, currently scheduled to open on October 3 and running with five shows per week through November 26. By our math, that makes it an even 40 shows for the program. That means a max of about 20,000 people will have a chance to check a performance out – and that’s not counting any holdbacks or folks who have some kind of venue hookup to go more than once.

For those unfamiliar, the Verified Fan program is a new system put together by Ticketmaster that allows artists to essentially select who gets a shot at buying seats to their shows. You have to pre-register, and if you are chosen (they apparently use a proprietary system to gauge whether or not those who register are “true fans”), you’ll be sent a code that will grant you specific access to the sale.
