The upcoming Broadway production of “Dog Day Afternoon” has announced additional casting ahead of its spring debut.
John Ortiz, Jessica Hecht, and Spencer Garrett will join the previously announced cast led by Jon Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. The production is scheduled to begin performances March 10 at the August Wilson Theatre, with an official opening night set for March 30. The limited engagement is currently scheduled to run through June 28.
Stephen Adly Guirgis has adapted the stage version of “Dog Day Afternoon,” which is based on the true events surrounding a 1972 Brooklyn bank robbery. The production will be directed by Rupert Goold, a two-time Olivier Award winner.

Ortiz will portray Detective Ferrara in the Broadway production. His previous stage credits include Guirgis’ “Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train,” along with an extensive body of film and television work. Hecht has been cast as Colleen and most recently appeared on Broadway in “Eureka Day.” Garrett will take on the role of Sheldon.
Bernthal and Moss-Bachrach were previously announced as the production’s leads. Bernthal will play Sonny Amato, while Moss-Bachrach will appear as Sal DeSilva.
The Broadway production is being presented by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, with Mark Kaufman, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, and Patrick Catullo serving as producers. Warner Bros. also released the original film, making this stage adaptation a continuation of the studio’s connection to the story.
Tickets for “Dog Day Afternoon” are currently on sale. Additional information about the production and ticket availability can be found at DogDayAfternoonBroadway.com.
