Bon Jovi Abruptly Halts MSG Concert, Reportedly Due to Impact of Sinus Infection

Bon Jovi cut short the penultimate concert of its nine-show Madison Square Garden run Thursday night after Jon Bon Jovi said a sinus infection prevented him from completing the performance.

The band had played for approximately 90 minutes when the frontman addressed the audience and apologized for ending the July 23 show early.

“Don’t throw away your ticket stubs,” Bon Jovi told fans, according to Rolling Stone. “Just hold onto it, we’ll figure out how to reschedule.”

A representative for the band subsequently confirmed that Bon Jovi had been battling a sinus infection and said additional information would be released. The band has not yet explained whether July 23 attendees will receive admission to a makeup performance, refunds or another form of compensation.

The interrupted concert was the eighth date in Bon Jovi’s nine-night Forever Tour residency at Madison Square Garden. The run began July 7 and was scheduled to conclude Sunday, July 26.

The July 26 performance remained listed on the Madison Square Garden and Ticketmaster websites as of Friday morning, with neither the venue nor the band announcing a change to the scheduled finale.

Thursday’s show reportedly ended shortly after Bon Jovi performed “Livin’ on a Prayer” with Train frontman Pat Monahan. The singer told the audience that he was unable to give fans his best performance before leaving the stage.

The incident comes during a closely watched return to touring for Bon Jovi following the frontman’s 2022 vocal-cord surgery and lengthy rehabilitation. The Madison Square Garden residency marked the band’s first series of large-scale public concerts since that procedure.

Earlier concerts in the residency had generally run for more than two hours. A review of the July 7 opening night reported that the band performed a 21-song set lasting approximately two hours and 15 minutes.

Jon Bon Jovi said before the tour that he had fully recovered, although he acknowledged that returning to full concerts required years of vocal training and preparation.

The Madison Square Garden engagement was initially announced as a four-show run before expanding to nine performances amid demand. The additional New York dates included the July 21, July 23 and July 26 concerts.

Following the New York residency, Bon Jovi is scheduled to take the Forever Tour to Europe beginning Aug. 28 at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh. Additional stadium concerts are scheduled for Dublin and London.

Neither those European dates nor Sunday’s Madison Square Garden finale had been postponed as of Friday morning.

Fans who attended Thursday’s shortened performance should retain their original tickets and proof of purchase while awaiting instructions from the band, venue or original ticketing provider.
