K-pop sensation BLACKPINK, who will become the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, just announced their debut North American headlining tour.
This morning, the group appeared on Good Morning America, performing their hit track “Ddu-Du Ddu Du,” and explained that they felt like it would be a good time to tour the U.S. following their Coachella performance in April. The tour is set to kick-off on April 17 in Los Angeles, California and will make stops in Chicago, Hamilton, Newark, and Atlanta before wrapping-up in Fort Worth, Texas on May 8.
BLACKPINK has released a string of singles since 2017, including hits “Square One,” “Square Two,” and “As If It’s Your Last.” The group began to garner worldwide attention with their 2018 debut record, BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA, which featured “As If It’s Your Last,” “Boombayah,” and “Ddu-Du Ddu Du,” which has already been viewed on YouTube more than 650 million times.
K-pop has consistently been growing in the U.S.; for the first time since PSY’s “Gangnam Style” in 2012, boyband BTS, or Bangtan Boys, toured the country last year. The band performed in support of their record Love Yourself, becoming the first K-pop group to play a U.S. stadium on tour. BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Lisa, Rose and Jisoo will join BTS in breaking U.S. records, but this time, as the first K-pop girl group.
